On October 3, 2023, the Harold Washington Library played host to Night of 1,000 Stars, a heartwarming event organized by scaleLIT, formerly known as the Chicago Citywide Literacy Coalition. This remarkable gathering brought together over sixty passionate individuals from adult education programs spanning Chicagoland, (NSLC), (SWLC), and (CHA). The event was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, such as The Honorable IL Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, IL State Representative Theresa Mah, Alderperson of the 25th ward Byron Sigcho-Lopez, and Ted Przybylo and Aileen Kim from the IL State Library Office.

The evening was a tapestry of inspiration, with moving speeches, powerful poems, live music, and even an original song titled "Big Shoulders" performed on the guitar by Harry Kent from St. Joseph Services. Attendees had the privilege of hearing excerpts from "The Newcomers" by a participant from Aquinas Literacy Center and witnessing a live painting demonstration by a participant from Pui Tak Center. Guests savored a delectable soul food buffet, including a mouthwatering peach cobbler, courtesy of Catering Out The Box. Dena Giacometti, adult education and workforce development consultant led the event with finesse as the emcee, while Eileen Molony captured the essence of the evening through her exceptional photography. The event's success was further ensured by the gracious leadership of Becky Raymond at scaleLIT and the warm hosting by Kate Lapinski from The Chicago Public Library.

Night of 1,000 Stars 2023 celebrated the incredible journeys of adult learners who've shown unwavering determination and perseverance in their pursuit of education.
